Cubestories

The Cube Project, initiated by Andrea Pizzini and Christian Martinelli, is an ambitious artistic venture that combines photography with an architectural installation resembling a large, mirror-clad cube. Built as a camera obscura, the Cube measures 2x2x2 meters, using a large lens to capture life-sized images directly onto photographic paper within the installation, creating unique, unrepeatable images. This process strips photography down to its essentials—light, a lens, and a fixed medium—resulting in singular works that avoid digital replication, embodying a pure form of photographic art.

The Cube has been showcased in various Italian locations, offering a reflective experience as it integrates its surroundings into each image. Pizzini and Martinelli emphasize themes of everyday life and natural beauty, echoing the documentary styles of photographers like Luigi Ghirri. The Cube’s images are also printed on the now-discontinued Ilfochrome paper, giving the photographs a textured, durable quality that adds historical weight to the project. The project has garnered interest for its contemplative artistic approach, blending natural imagery with an experimental photographic technique
